13th-14th century AD. A bronze chessman seal matrix with hexagonal-section shank, collar and circular suspension loop; to the circular face an intaglio design of a large fleur with arrowhead terminal to central element; with incuse *S' WILLI RAPVN inscription for William (of) Ripon (Yorkshire); with collector record cards, museum quality impression and ticket. Harvey, English Seals, London, 1906, for general information. 5.37 grams, 16.45mm diameter (3/4").
