17th-18th century AD. A seal matrix comprising a hexagonal-section wood handle, bronze discoid plate with intaglio motif of a shield supported by rampant horses and surmounted by a facing helmet with lion rampant(?) crest, inscribed 'FA' in copperplate script; supplied with an impression of the seal. 25 grams, 51mm (2") From an old Hampshire collection; found on the River Thames foreshore, Bankside, London, UK, in 1987, recorded with the Museum of London. [No Reserve]
