This is a vintage 1923 black-and-white photograph of the French silent film actor Charles de Roche. This is a rare dramatic image of a seriously brooding actor attending to his craft. We're sure this was released to promote The Ten Commandments (1923 by Paramount) where de Roche played Rameses, the Magnificent. Charles de Rochefort (1887-1952) was a star of the French silent cinema. He has also known as Charles de Roche And Charles de Rocheford. He appeared in 34 films between 1911 and 1932, sometimes as a French cowboy. In 1923 he went to the US and made several films in Hollywood. Very good condition with just very light surface wear. The newspapers often added a little depth to the photo with some ink and here they did a bit around the eyes and mouth. You honestly cannot see it looking straight on. A bit of denting on upper left corner where two paper clips had been and some very light writing in pencil in the bottom margin. Heavy weight paper.
