c. 1860 Sam Houston Carte-de-Visite Photograph Portrait, with Imprint of maker Charles D. Fredericks & Co., 587 Broadway, New York, Choice Crisp Extremely Fine.
A crisp, very clean with sharp contrast, Carte-de-Visite Photograph Portrait of Sam Houston, important leader of the Texan Revolution, measuring 4" x 2.5" with maker's imprint on the reverse. Houston appears in his dress suit and heavy overcoat, carrying a gold-tipped cane in his left hand, shown with his wild hair and sideburns, and a steely gaze. The back of the card bears a pencil notation "Genl Sam Houston" at top and the imprint of "Charles D. Fredericks & Co., New York". Visually impressive and an important historic subject. Very rare and choice.

An important leader of the Texas Revolution, Houston served as the first and third president of the Republic of Texas, and was one of the first two individuals to represent Texas in the United States Senate. He also served as the sixth governor of Tennessee and the seventh governor of Texas, the only American to be elected governor of two different states in the United States.
