Item Details
Description
A Mexican 'Mojiganga' Procession mask, Mochitlan, Guerrero, mid-20th Century, made from a deer pelvis and nicely painted, with charming designs such as butterflies, a lizard and what appear to be faces of the 'nose'. W: 9 in (23 cm); H: (bone only) 9 1/2 in (24 cm). Repaired down the center and held at top and bottom with heavy copper wire. The mask would have been worn by the one announcing the fiesta and also during the dances that follow the procession. A very scarce type of mask. Ex Los Angeles private collection.
