Description
An attractive Idoma wood mask from Nigeria, a type worn atop the head, the base pierced all around for attachment to the costume. This is a bust, female(?), with shards of mirror set into the face for 'eyes'. L: c. 12 in (30.4 cm). It has a wonderful patina with some loss from wear and environmental damage. An old piece! Cf. T. Teuten for similar examples. Ex collection of Phil Orlando (1932-92) and Robert Gino, founders of the Orlando Gallery, a S.F. Valley fixture for nearly 60 years!
