Description
A printed silk dress, circa 1836, with gigot sleeves, pleated mancherons, padded hem, bust approx 81cm, 32in Provenance: The late Harry Matthews collection.
Condition
Silk is worn and repaired over shoulder areas, rear closure, rear waistband closure. Large faint brown stain down front right side of skirt but it is concealed within the folds of the dress. A faint brown watermark above from hem also approx. 28x14cm. Watermarks and wear to hem edge generally. Patch at left underarm, slight wear to upper edge of waistband centre front. Faint stains to cotton bodice lining and perspiration stains at underarms. Repair to cotton lining at rear left waist. Exterior silk does not show this. Wear at rear waist closure to silk. Inner waistband has a 9cm repair/alterations.
