Item Details
Description
(Attributed to). Woman with Bare Breast. Circa 1927/28. Vintage contact gelatin silver print from the original 18 x 24 cm negative. 22,2 x 16 cm. Number 063 stamped in upper left corner, flush-mounted to original orange negative sleeve (torn).
Yva was one of Germany's most successful fashion and commercial photographers. She opened her studio in Berlin in 1925 and collaborated with Heinz Hajek-Halke in 1926. Her work was published in the fashionable magazines of the day such as Die Dame, Uhu, Elegante Welt and Berliner Illustrierte and her work was also included in the Film und Foto exhibit in Stuttgart in 1929. One of her most famous images of legs, also used for an Elbeo stocking advertisement, was also featured in the photo paper company Mimosa's sample portfolio of photo papers issued in the late 1920s/early 1930s. The print offered here is a sample print which was mounted to the glass negative sleeve as a reference print. This print is neither signed nor is there any other indication pointing to the photographer, but it was in the same pile of negatives and photos in which another Yva photo and negative were found in Dresden in 1992 in a container waiting to be discarded and destroyed. - Oxidation mirroring around edges, otherwise in good condition.
