Description
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #1 Collector's Special published in Nov 1989 by DC Comics.Character:
Batman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and first appeared in Detective Comics #27. Originally named "the Bat-Man," the character is also referred to by such epithets as "the Caped Crusader," "the Dark Knight," and "the World's Greatest Detective."

Batman's secret identity is Bruce Wayne, an American billionaire, industrialist, and philanthropist. Having witnessed the murder of his parents as a child, he swore revenge on criminals, an oath tempered with a sense of justice. Wayne trains himself both physically and intellectually and dons a bat-themed costume to fight crime. Batman operates in the fictional Gotham City, assisted by various supporting characters including his butler Alfred Pennyworth, his crime-fighting partner Robin, the police commissioner Jim Gordon, and occasionally the heroine Batgirl. He fights a large assortment of villains, often referred to as the "rogues gallery," which includes the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Two-Face, Ra's al Ghul, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, and Clayface. Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess any superpowers; he makes use of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess, martial arts skills, an indomitable will, provocation of fear, and intimidation in his continuous war on crime.

Batman became popular soon after his introduction and gained his own comic book title, Batman, in 1940. As the decades progressed, differing interpretations of the character emerged. The late 1960s Batman television series used a camp aesthetic which continued to be associated with the character for years after the show ended. Various creators worked to return the character to his dark roots, culminating in 1986 with The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, followed by Batman: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore, and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth by Grant Morrison. The success of Warner Bros.' live-action Batman feature films have helped maintain public interest in the character. Synopsis:
Young Bruce Wayne accompanies tracker/bounty hunter Willy Doggett across the mountains of Alaska. He wants to learn from the best. An assassin named Tom Woodley appears and kills Doggett, while greatly injuring Bruce. Bruce fights back, and during the struggle, Tom slips from his perch and falls seemingly to his death. An Alaskan Shaman and his daughter find Bruce and nurse him back to health. The Shaman tells Bruce an ancient Native American folktale about a bat, and he makes Bruce promise to never reveal the story to another living soul. Bruce returns to the United States and his family home at Wayne Manor. His first attempt at crime fighting (depicted as his first uncostumed encounter with Selina Kyle) nearly ends in disaster, and he returns to Wayne Manor broken and bleeding. While resting in his father's study, a large bat crashes through the window. Inspired by animal's dark visage, Bruce decides to adopt the costumed identity of Batman in order to strike terror into the hearts of criminals.Featured Video:

GeekRoom Grading System: Action Figures, Cards, Comics, Magazines, & Toys
Mint: A never-used collectible in perfect condition with complete packaging (including instructions, original attachments, tags, and so on) identical to how it appeared on the shelf in the original box.
Equivalent CGC grade 9.5 or above

Excellent: Used, but barely. Excellent is a small step under Mint, but Excellent can have very minor signs of wear. The wear must be a normal, desirable part of aging or so minor that it’s barely noticeable and visible only upon close inspection. Damage of any sort is not “very minor.” Wear or minor, normal factory flaws should be noted. (Factory flaws are small blemishes common at the time of manufacture — a tiny air bubble under paint, for example.)
Equivalent CGC grade 8.5 to 9.4

Very Good: A well-cared-for item that has seen limited use but remains in great condition. Item and instructions are complete and undamaged but may show some signs of wear.

Equivalent CGC grade 7.0 to 8.4

Good: Item shows wear from consistent use, but it remains in good condition. The original instructions are included and in acceptable condition. The item may be marked, identified, or show other signs of previous use. The item works perfectly and is in good shape overall.
Equivalent CGC grade 6.0 to 6.9

Fair: Items have considerable wear: scratches, worn paint, chips or decals missing. Parts may be missing. Original packaging has considerable damage as well.
Equivalent CGC grade below 6.0
