FANNY FREEMAN, NORTH CAROLINA ATTRIBUTED NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, silk on linen, four lines of letters and numbers above "Fanny Freeman / Aged 13(?) Years / 1865", two diamonds and two animals, and three baskets of flowers, all within a simple diamond border. In a black-painted wooden frame. A folder of research work on the Freeman family accompanies this lot. 1865. 12 1/2" x 10 3/4" sight.
Provenance: Property of a Tennessee private collector.
Catalogue Note: Fanny/Fannie Freeman (b.c. 1852-1928) was born in Franklin Co., NC to William and Harriet Clifton Freeman. In 1881 she married Henry C. Clifton who served as a Corporal in the 47th Regiment of the North Carolina Infantry.
