CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY TILT-TOP TEA TABLE, a fine example, featuring a highly figured one-board top, oak and mahogany dovetailed open box support, swollen-baluster standard, and tripodal base with substantial cabriole legs ending in padded and slightly peaked slipper feet. Rounded battens attached to underside of top. Excellent old surface with rich color. Possibly British or Edenton, North Carolina or Norfolk, Virginia. Second half 18th century. 28 7/8" H, 32 1/8" D (top - slightly out of round).

Chief among these characteristics are the dovetailed open box supports, swollen-baluster standards, small notched carvings to standard bases and undersides of upper legs (Norfolk examples), and padded slipper feet.

Very good condition with minor wear and scratches. Possible small pieced repair to one leg at juncture with standard. Top, with slight warp, turned and reset.
