Description
H 18 5/8 in. This is an exquisite reverse white dragon with underglaze blue background moonflask of the Xuande Period (1426-1435). This was probably made for the imperial palace. The cobalt blue used was the imported cobalt from Middle East. The intense blue color with iron deposit is the landmark for the cobalt of the imported cobalt. Only the Emperor could use the dragon motif at that time. Only a few museums in the world have similar moonflask but much smaller in size.
