Description
KRIEGSMARINE CABIN BOY'S DOCUMENT GROUPING
An excellent grouping of eight documents related to the naval and merchant service of Cabin Boy Otto Jonuscheit, born in Essen on May 14, 1927. At the age of 16, he was given permission to serve aboard transports breaking through the British blockades to Norway. For his bravery as a civilian, he was awarded the Fuhrerpaket and Fuhrergeschenk, usually reserved for servicemen in action at the front. Present is Jonuscheit's Kriegsmarine soldbuch, reisepasse which lists him as a cabin boy and notes trips to Spain, two swimming certificates, a certificate of nationality, a Certificate of Release from Volksschule Essen, March, 1941 allowing him to work, and his P.O.W. Personal Data Sheet listing him as a "seaman" on the merchant ship "Gulosenfjord" which repeatedly broke the blockade. A rare grouping.
