GEN. RIDGELY GAITHER, JR. SWAGGER STICK
GEN. RIDGELY GAITHER, JR. (1903-1992) U.S. Army Lieut. General, an early proponent of airborne forces, second commander of the paratroop school at Fort Benning, and instrumental in the formation of the all-black 555th Parachute Infantry Co., the first such airborne group. Presentation swagger stick given to Gaither, 22" long with brass tip and cap, ebony painted body. The cap is engraved: "TO: LT. GEN. R. GAITHER FROM: USARCARIB SCHOOL". Very good. Presented by the U.S. Army Caribbean School at Fort Gulick, Canal Zone, in operation from 1946-64.
