Description
Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica Nicoya Peninsula, ca. 1000 to 1350 CE. A large polychrome footed vessel from the Greater Nicoya region of Pre-Columbian Costa Rica, of the Pataky polychrome variety. It features a pear-shaped, bulbous, flare-footed body with decoration in black, cream/tan and red pigments. The upper band of iconography depicts abstract symbolic representations alluding to jaguar and feather imagery, while the body and base of the vessel features a variety of other polychrome geometric patterns of decoration. Size: 9"H.
