Ancient Near East, Syria, Syro-Hittite, 2750 BCE to 1900 BCE. An expressive Syro-Hittite pillar figurine with abstract human features and form. Pillar figurines are a form of statuary made in tribute to these ancient culture’s gods and goddesses. These figurines are found throughout the region, yet few boast such an elaborately decorated presence, including an elaborate headdress, bracelets, ankle cuffs, and an unusual ornament that falls between breasts to pubic area. As ancient as this object is, it is in excellent condition and with its curvaceous form continues to connote fertility and emit an aura of mystery and wonder. Custom, museum quality stand. Size: figurine itself measures 5-5/8" (14.3 cm).
