Description
Enrique Alferez (TX/LA, 1901-1999) plaster sculpture of a bull, leaping from a jet of water; probably a maquette for one of the fountains the artist designed in New Orleans. Plaster is painted to simulate bronze. Unsigned. 19"H x 21"W x 5"D. 15.6 lbs. Provenance: Inherited by consignor from Rosa Rainold Graner, 1904 - 1962, who graduated from Newcomb School of Art in 1926, specialist in ceramic sculpture, awarded the title of Master Craftsman (work was done under her married name, Rai Graner Murray). Murray also studied sculpture with Enrique Alferez beginning in 1933 and worked with him on the sculpture in New Orleans' City Park.
Condition
Tail broken and reglued with 2" area of loss. Several chips and losses to paint, most noticeably to front and rear feet, largest area of loss 1-1/4"L.
