Rare large 3/4 plate size daguerreotype of an officer in uniform, with his wife and four young children, circa 1845. One child is depicted reclining in her father's lap, her hands clasped in his, while two daughters flank their parents and the youngest child lays across the mother's lap. Leather covered wood case, lined in red velvet. Sight: 5-1/4" x 4-1/3". Overall 7" x 5-3/4". Note: Nine buttons are visible on the officer's coat, with the remaining ones obscured by the child in his lap. The buttons on his uniform have a distinct rim behind and around the raised central sections, which indicate he is likely a staff officer in a militia, in the Medical Service or the Paymaster Department, both of whom had two rows of 10 buttons down the front and embroidery on the collar and cuffs.

Later mat and protective glass over it; a couple of minute dents to plate and loss of silvering at edges. Abrasions to case exterior and 1-1/2" scratch to rear of case.
