Description
Ancient Near Eastern strand of mosaic glass beads with globular pendant. Strung together with white cotton string. 13 1/2" L, folded. 800 - 1000 BC. Provenance: the estate of Mrs. Adna Godfrey Wilde, Jr. (Sara Joan Wilde), Colorado Springs, CO. Note: Mrs. Wilde (originally from Nashville) and her husband, Lt. Col. Adna Godfrey Wilde, Jr., traveled in Asia extensively circa 1945-1950 while he served as an aide de camp to General Edward Malory Almond in Tokyo and Korea (Almond was Chief of Staff, Far East Command, to General MacArthur). In 1969 Lt. Col. Wilde returned to Asia, working closely with General Westmoreland. After leaving the army, he worked as director of the Pioneers Museum in Colorado Springs and executive director of the American Numismatic Association. The couple also lived in Europe in the 1950s. They were avid collectors of Asian decorative arts.
