Note: This painting has been added to the catalog raisonne on Thomas Hicks by Letha Clair Robertson, PhD, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Texas at Tyler, who notes that Hicks' landscapes are rare and that RMO was most likely Robert M. Olyphant - a wealthy railroad financier and American art collector who was one of Hicks's patrons. Biography: A native of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Thomas Hicks was apprenticed to his cousin, Edward Hicks. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the National Academy of Design (where he exhibited for many years). Provenance: a California collection.
