Description
Pre-Columbian, Panama, Conte Period, ca. 600 to 800 CE. This olla has beautiful swirling geometric and zoomorphic designs in cream, blue, red, and black, on the body of the jar, and banding in those colors around the neck. The Conte period represents an explosion of artistic creativity in Panamanian ceramics and this piece has all the hallmarks of creativity, including the strong use of the blue color. Size: 9-1/2” in diameter x 12-1/2”H.
Provenance: Ex-private Rousseau collection acquired before 1984.

Condition
There has been loss to the rim with a section repaired. There is wear and patina on the design, with a few minor stains, but they are still clearly visible. The base has a slight crack that has been repaired.
