Description:Single letterpress sheet, approx. 12x17½", affixed to stiff paper and linen-backed. Rare Wells, Fargo & Co. reward poster, offering $100 for the capture of "Wm. Harrington, alias Wm. Waverly, alias Chas. Johnson, alias Jas. W. Clark, alias Alkali Jim" issued following his escape from San Quentin Prison on July 17th, 1875. Alkali Jim, along with his partners Charles Cooper and William Miner, had been convicted in 1872 for the 1871 armed robbery of a Wells, Fargo & Co. stage coach near San Andreas, California. Alkali Jim is described as "Age about 37 years; Height 5 feet 8½ inches; light complexion; high full forehead; red-brown hair, straight; large grey eyes; large round nose; long face; red cheeks; stout built; weighs about 170 pounds; lower part of ears very small, apparently shrivelled up."

Some old moisture stains, approximately ¼" browning in all margins from previous matting, pin holes in each corner, linen backing partially separated, overall very good.
