A HAND CARVED WOOD INCA STYLE KERO, POSSIBLY COLONIAL PERU, 17TH/18TH CENTURY,, of flaring cylindrical form with a broad rim. The upper register depicting a series of standing carved birds alternating long tail feathered birds before single strawberry foliage, above three bands at the waist that lead to a negative space. The lower register at the base, below two bands, depicting a series of carved undulating leafy branches enclosing small birds foraging on circular berried stems. All painted in with red, green and cream colored resinous pigment. NOTE: The Kero drinking cup originated in the Early Incan period of 100-600 CE, and continued to be produced after Spanish rule. These cups were used to drink chicha out of, a corn beer.
