38 original albumen photographs of Japan, many hand-colored. Some are captioned. Each photograph measures 21x27 cm (8x10½") on stiff board leaves within an maroon leather album, which measures 25.5x31.5 cm (10x12½").
The first photograph (on front pastedown) shows a hand-tinted photograph of the Kamakura Daibutsu (bronze statue of the Buddha). Other scenes include Geishas in a boat, on the Grand Canal of Osaka, an interior view of a home, Mikado's Palace, Printing Bureau of Tokyo, a Geisha seated on a riksha, an empty storefront, a broomseller, Nunobiki Kobe, Oura Hotel, and much more.
Condition
Album spine lacking, a few leaves detached; photographs are very good or near fine, the first photo has a few corner tears, creasing and smudges, a few others with very light marks/soiling, lightly foxed page mounts; very good overall.
