Description
Chinese Eight-Panel Coromandel Screen, Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)/Qianlong Dynasty (1736-1795), the lacquered wood screen depicting a scene from the historic "Battle of Red Cliffs", with small reserves across the top and bottom depicting arrangements of flowers and archaic vessels, the reverse depicting a landscape with pagodas and figures, h. 68-1/4", w. 100".
Condition
Losses throughout, particularly around the hinges. Scattered crazing and craquelure, nicks, abrasions and areas of flaking. Hinges are not original. No other apparent repairs. Colors maintain intensity and the panels are still intact and able to stand freely. Wear is consistent with the age, display and material of this screen.
