PRESSED SANDWICH "FRENCH INK" STAND, bright Vaseline (uranium), comprising a stand with two shell-form receivers centering a plateau with two holes to receive the inkwell and sander with original copper cover, rays to underside of plateau, factory-polished top of plateau, table rim, and underside of inserts. Boston & Sandwich Glass Co. Circa 1870-1880. 2 3/4" HOA; stand 1 1/2" H, 6 5/8" x 7 3/8".

Catalogue Note: The B & S catalogue illustrates an alabaster/clambroth example. It was referred to as a "French Ink" in the catalogue price list and wholesaled for $12 per dozen. As noted by Barlow and Kaiser, these inkstands are extremely rare. It is not illustrated in any other references.

Condition

Plateau openings with shallow chip and flaking which is normal, otherwise undamaged.
