This is a betel Nut preparatory box and Chopper from Lombok Island, Indonesia. This is a rare old , well used wooden container and is a quite an elegant and exquisite example. The carved and incised wood, accented with various linear designs and a unusual woven basketry band around the center. The Box has such wonderful style and craftsmanship, obviously the property of a member of status among the peoples. Rarely can you find old works such as this available, they have all been collected. Measures 10 1/2 inches long x 6 3/4 inches wide x 5 3/8 inches tall. A Silver coated bronze betel chopper is included with purchase, though I doubt it is anywhere as old as the box, it is included with the purchase to add aesthetic appeal. The chopper measures 9 7/8 inches long.
