A rare late 19th century Shrine Door from the Tana Torajah peoples of Sulawesi island, Indonesia.Traditionally such doors were once used to protect large shrines or even tombs that were carved into the sides of cliffs or placed in caves. The likeness of a buffalo was often used on these doors as an auspicious symbol of status and wealth.The door measures 47.5 x 19 inches and has been custom mounted. Provenance: A Private Philadelphia Collection.
