Description
Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Chavin, ca. 1000 to 700 BCE. Interesting pair of stone mace heads. Each carved from light colored basalt, one gray, the other tan and each with small nodes. Grey example sharpened to a point and each with large central hole for insertion of wooden shaft. Size: Each measures 2-1/4" in diameter.
Provenance: Ex-private P. Davis collection, Santa Monica, CA, acquired between 1985 and 1995.
