Description
British School, 19th century. "The Harvesters", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned, label on verso noting J. Fairhurst, circa dates 1820-1830. Genre painting depicting group of harvesters returning from a long days work, wagon set on a dirt path beneath the trees, wagon at left foreground carrying four figures and dog, young boy rests against the freshly gleaned haystack as the woman, child and older gentleman look ahead, little boy with walking stick at left of wagon asking to ride, two horses pull the wagon with man leading the way, opening between the trees showing the hillside and the colorful sky at sunset. Framed approximately 32" x 38.25". Unframed approximately 24.25" x 30.5".
