The AEAA is very pleased to present this stunning 1998 Fenton 7 inch tall French Opalescent vase, finished in the Trellis Diamond Optic Opalescent pattern, masterfully hand painted by K. Lupandus, with a lovely Empress Rose Crest Rim. Our gorgeous floral double crimped rim vase is Ware #1129DX, and the pattern was designed by the famed Martha Reynolds. Our vase carries both the original Fenton Sticker, + the base Fenton oval. This vase stands 5 x 7.5 inches tall and weighs 2#, PLUS, is in virtually mint condition! xxxxxxxxxxx. The Fenton Art Glass Company was founded in 1905 by Frank L. Fenton and his brother John W. Fenton in an old glass factory building in Martins Ferry, Ohio. They began by painting decorations on glass blanks made by other glass manufacturers. Soon, being unable to get the glass they needed, they decided to produce their own glass. The first glass from the new Fenton factory in Williamstown, West Virginia, was made on January 2, 1907. During the years from 1905 to the 1920s, Fenton design was influenced by the artists at Tiffany and Steuben. In late 1907, Fenton changed the glass making industry forever with its introduction of Iridescent (Carnival) glass that is highly collectible to this very day. In the late 1940s, the top three members of the Fenton management team passed, leaving Frank M. Fenton, age 33, and Wilmer C. (Bill) Fenton, age 25, to step in and take over as President and Vice President. In spite of other glass factories closing at a rapid rate, Frank and Bill led the Fenton factory through significant American growth for the next 30 years. During that period, Fenton Art Glass was the first U.S. Glass house to reintroduce Uranium Oxide (Vaseline) back into production as its Topaz, in April of 1959, only produced until July of 1961! All Vaseline production for 17 years, had been a casualty of the Congressional Hazardous Materials Act of 1942, owing to WW II. In the last quarter of the 20th century, and into the new Millennium, Fenton Art Glass has continued to supply some of the finest mold blown, satin & Carnival formulas plus incredible hand signed & painted examples of every shape & color. Sadly, in July of 2011, Fenton Art Glass ceased its traditional glass-making at the Williamstown, WV factory. However, the factory remained open for a couple of years, only as a jewelry making operation, producing handcrafted glass beads and Teardrop earrings. There were three Fenton Museum auctions, with the final auction of singular items held on July 26, 2014.
