Item Details
Description
The following treasure is from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford; noted dealers and lifelong collectors of exceptional antique & vintage heirlooms. This lot is a blast to the past with a Little Red Riding Hood Cookie Jar by Hull (closed basket). Surrounded on her skirt with sprays of flowers and accented with a blue bordered apron. Bearing the makers mark of Hull USA and the Pat #135889. You would have a hard time trying to find a better example. The Red Riding Hood cookie jar was designed by Louis Bauer in 1943, and was patented by A. E. Hull Pottery Co. The Red Riding Hood line was produced through 1957. Hull Pottery was founded in 1905 by Addis Emmet Hull, in Crooksville, Ohio. The company began by making utilitarian stoneware, semi-porcelain dinnerware and deco tile. By the 1920's, Hull Pottery had expanded to offices in Chicago and Detroit, a showroom in New York, and even a large warehouse in New Jersey. During this time, the company began to expand its product line to include Hull art pottery, utilizing a larger variety of colors and differing glazing techniques. When production of this jar got so far out for Hull to keep up with the orders, Hull brothers contracted the subsequent jars out to Regal China for manufacturing. This jar has a wonderful condition and rich color. *** Weight: 5# 4oz - Measurements: 8.5 x 13 tall ***** Little Red Riding Hood's skirt generally is decorated with poppies or poinsettias. During factory lunch breaks, decorators had fun painting cookie jars in unusual colors; some Little Reds even have blue capes. "Lunchtime jars" fetch a premium.
