The young girl wears a light-colored cotton dress with ruffles over a plain underdress.
The doll is in played with condition. There is paint loss to the body and the face, as is usual with this type of doll. The doll is marked on the shoulder ‘SCHOENHUT DOLL/ PAT. JAN 17 / 11 U.S.A / & FOREIGN COUNTRIES’. The clothes are soiled due to age. The doll measures 42 cm in height.
Schoenhut
This American toy company was founded 1872 by the German immigrant Albert Schoenhut in Pennsylvania. He grew up in Germany as the son of a toy-making family, yet later became renowned worldwide for his high quality dolls, doll’s houses and wooden circus figures. 1903 he patented his ‘Humpty Dumpty Circus’ – his greatest hit! Despite its success the company did not manage to survive the Great Depression and went out of business in 1935.
