Description
96. Ivory cat Cane-Ca. 1890-Large ivory handle with the portrait of a cat at the front extending in a longer hand rest in the shape of its paw. Well streaked rosewood shaft with a plain silver collar and a horn ferrule. The portrait shows a lovable haired feline head with a stretching tongue while the paw clearly displays a comfortable fluidity and the claws sheathed with the skin and fur around the toe pads. Distinguished by a wonderful emotionality and a feline which seems to have personality, the ergonomically shaped handle was obviously used over a longer period and shows the right amount of wear and grown patina to increase its appeal and not diminish its value.- H. 5” x 1 ½”, O.L. 37 ¾”-$1,200-$1,600
