Description
WE SHIP! The AEAA is proud to present this gigantic set of 3 handsome 1960s to 1980s serving pieces. The first is a `1950s to 1960s deep salad mixing bowl carrying the T.G. Green co. Ltd. Church Gresley English New Church stamp. It sits 11 x 11 x 4.75 inches deep. We also present a mammoth meat platter from the fabled Arabia Pottery of Helsinki, Finland. Although Arabia can trace its opening to 1864, this style of Ironware was first offered in the early 1970s, and it sits 22 x 15.75 x 3 inched deep. We also have a monstrous 14.5 x 14.5 x 3.25 inch deep pasta bowl, impressed with a DD. It is suggested that this DD is originally a 19th century English mark, but this example is certainly the second half of the 20th century, though it may be English. The VG platter has two factory glaze skips, and the other two are in great condition. These fine heirlooms are from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford, respected, longtime dealers of valuable antiques. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Church Gresley is a village and former civil parish in the South Derbyshire district of Derbyshire, England. The village is situated between Castle Gresley and the town of Swadlincote, with which it is contiguous. T.G. Green & Co Ltd originally operated from the village of Church Gresley Church Gresley Potteries), South Derbyshire between 1864 and 2007. T.G. Green was founded by Thomas Goodwin Green back in 1864. Rumor has it that he bought up an existing pottery factory while he was on his honeymoon with his new wife, Mary Tenniel, the sister of Punch and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland illustrator Sir John Tenniel. One of the companies most popular lines has always been Cornishware which was first produced in 1924. It was created using a nifty lathe-turning technique that scraped blue slip away from its beautiful ceramics to reveal white bands of clay beneath. Those stripes reminded an employee of the blue skies and white-crested waves of Cornwall, which is how Cornishware got its name. So famous for their blue and white striped Cornish Kitchen Ware, it publically became known as E-Blue, the pottery produced many hundreds of patterns from Yellow wares, Victorian transfer prints, colorful Art Nouveau & vibrant Art Deco patterns, Wartime utility pottery, avant-garde Retro designs and many well-known Brewery wares, employing up to 1,000 staff at the height of production. Now, sadly, the pottery site lays in ruins, and is never likely to ever see production again, the last of the South Derbyshire potteries has gone. However Cornishware is still manufactured and sold through a new T.G. Green & Co Ltd.
