Here is an outstanding collection of three large fine earthenware Royal Doulton Toby mugs. We have The FALCONER D6533 - was designed by Max Henk and issued 1960-1991. His handle is a falcon. There is a BACCHUS D6499 was also designed by Max Henk Bacchus or Dionysus was the Roman god of wine, ritual madness and ecstasy. He was issued in 1958 and his handle is a twisted grapevine. And we have LONG JOHN SILVER D6335 - was issued between 1952 and 1998. His handle is a parrot. All three are wonderful characters with fantastic expressions and detail. These are from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford; noted dealers and lifelong collectors of exceptional antique & vintage heirlooms ***Total Weight : 6# - Measurements: Bacchus measured for reference - 6.75 x 5 x 7.25" tall. ****** In England, the tradition of jugs or pitchers in the shape of human figures dates back to the eighteenth century. These drinking vessels became popular and referred to as Toby Jugs. It is said that they received this name after a song about a character known as “Toby Philpot” which was popular in 1761.
