Condition:

The floor lamp is in very good condition with two small dents in the shade and slight traces related to age of the cane of the stand. The lamp possesses of a plug Type A and could not be tested. Auctionata cannot guarantee functionality. The lamp has a total height of 153 cm and the lamp shade is 65 cm in diameter.

Paavo Tynell (1890-1973)

After studying at the school of applied arts in Helsinki, Paavo Tynell founded in 1918 with substantial support by Gösta Serlachius, the artist blacksmith Taito Oy. During the following two decades, creative minds such as Alvar Aalto and Kaj Frank were active for the company. Tynell specializes in the manufacture of lamps, which he designs partially himself. For his models he finds inspiration in nature, traditional Finnish Christmas decoration and also in historical shapes. The production was limited to a few specimens, because the lights mostly made by hand. His designs for the Helsinki central station, the Savoy Restaurant, the Café Vaakuna and the Viipuri Library are world famous. During the 1950s, he operates mainly in New York and designs in this periode the lighting of the United Nations building. Especially since the beginning of the new millennium, his lamp models enjoy great popularity among collectors. (tm)
