Claudio Bravo (Chilean, 1936-2011)
Chilean artist Claudio Bravo originally won acclaim as a portraitist, though is perhaps best known for his still lifes featuring crumpled paper, exotically dressed figures and animal skulls. Heavily influenced by Spanish Old Masters, Bravo developed a hyperrealist style while studying under Miguel Venegas Cifuentes. Bravo had his first exhibition at “Salon 13” in Santiago at the age of 17 and went on to exhibit internationally throughout his career, including documenta 5. His works can be found in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Chile.
