Description
Carole King Rare Group Of Acetate Demo Recordings For The Monkees, With Lead Sheets Here is the first of three lots of extremely rare acetates of songs composed by Carole King and her collaborator Toni Stern, and performed by King and a full band. King and Stern enjoyed a highly productive period of songwriting in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and two of their joint compositions are included on King's signature LP, Tapestry, including the enormous hit "It's Too Late." The acetates in this and the two subsequent lots were gifted to the consignor by King in the 1970s.

The four songs in this lot were all written in the 1960s with the Monkees in mind: "As We Go Along" was included on Head;  "Look Down" was recorded by the Monkees but went unreleased until 1996 on the Missing Links Vol. 3  compilation; and "Down The Highway," and "The Image Collector", which were apparently not recorded by the group. Each song is on an individual 10" 45rpm acetate, the title typed onto a Screen Gems-Columbia Music Inc. white label, and with a photocopied lead sheet included with each. Condition (discs): "Look Down": MT-9; Others: NM-8.
