Description

Two swing-handle Nantucket lightship baskets. 19th / early 20th century. A round basket by William D. Appleton (1851-1918). The underside bears remnants of a paper label reading; "Lightship Basket made by William D. Appleton Nantucket, Mass". Measures 5.5" high, 6.25" diameter, 8.5" high to top of handle. Together with an oval basket. The underside bears remnants of a paper label with indistinct writing. Measures 11" wide, 7-3/8" deep, 5" high and 9.75" high to top of handle. Both baskets tightly-woven with swing handles, brass pin mounts and wooden bottoms.
