Description
Likely Continental, early 20th century. Miniature portrait brooch after Jean-Jacques Henner (French, 1829-1905), "St. Fabiola" depicting Henner's iconic work of the saint with red cloth draped over head and in profile against dark background. Hand painting diminutive portrait contained in glazed oval setting with twisted ribbon and beaded motif in gilt metal frame. Unmarked. Overall approximately 2" x 1.6". Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Note: The original work is lost but has numerous copies. Hundreds of copies after Henner's "St. Fabiola" have been grouped together by the Belgian contemporary artist Francis Alys who gathered the works over a 15 year span.
