Description
20th century to contemporary. Pair of Louis XV style canopied bergeres, guerites, or sentry canopy chairs, also known as Porter's, monks or conversation chairs, with exposed tan painted slightly distressed frame embellished with fluted and leaf carving joined by patera carved blocks, the channeled hood interior, back, seat, and elbow rests custom upholstered in brown velvet fabric, the hood interior punctuated by brass nailhead trim channels, the sides terminating in padded arms, on an egg and dart molded seat rail allover raised on turned tapered fluted legs on toupie feet. Height 57.5", width 26.25", depth 28", seat to floor 19". Provenance: Property from the Private Collection of Helen Ballard, Atlanta, Georgia.
