Longtime fixture in the Cleveland Art Scene, Ginna Brand, a native of southwestern Pennsylvania, attended Kent State University in the early 1950’s. There she earned a degree in art education. Subsequently, she attended the Cleveland Institute of Art where she received a degree in painting. After completing her formal education she was named Professor of Drawing and Painting at the CIA.
In 1974 Mrs. Brand was appointed head of the art education program for the New Gallery in Cleveland (now renamed the Museum of Contemporary Art).
Through a long career in art education as well as artistic creation, Ginna Brand has left a lasting imprint on the Cleveland art scene. A recipient of numerous May Show Awards, her works have been acquired by private collectors as well as public institutions; among them Case Western Reserve University, Progressive Insurance Collection and the George Gund Foundation.
Ginna Brand’s works encompass a narrative filled with movement and energy. Multiple layers of rhythms and beats characterize her work making them reminiscent of jazz energy translated to traditional artistic forms.
