Description
Outstanding 18th century German Frankenthal, Carl Theodor porcelain plate with gently upward sloping sides and scalloped rim, c. 1770-1788. Hand painted with two birds upon a tree branch in a landscape and surrounded by scattered deutsche blumen (flowers), 9.5"d x 1.125"h. Base with under-glaze blue crowned Carl Theodor mark and numbered 87. While all examples are scarce, most are decorated with sprays of deutche blumen. The double bird motif of this example is exceedingly rare, this is truly a museum quality example. PROVENANCE: From the personal collection of a St. Petersburg, Florida gentleman.
