Description
SALOON MUSIC BOX - Symphonian "Mikado" Vertical 25 1/4" Disc Music Box, circa 1898, the highest quality available at the time, in a two-part red walnut cabinet, with the name emblazoned in gold, coin operated (penny), having a glass face over upper cabinet, displaying the disc. Lower case holds extra discs. 89 1/2" tall x 34" wide x 19 1/2" deep. The Symphonion Company began business in Germany in 1885, and manufactured the first disc-playing musical box. They existed under several names but was still producing machines in 1930. Works well, with a wonderful sound, missing molding from case and spindles from upper gallery, the inside rack for the discs is missing. Includes (48) discs and the original crank.
