Description
Andy Warhol (American, 1928 - 1987). "Electric Chair (Conspiracy Means to Breathe Together)". Color offset lithograph. 1969. Warhol estate stamp and AWAB stamp, verso. Edition unknown, few survive. White smooth wove paper. The full sheet. Fine impression with bright colors. Very good to fine condition. Literature/catalogue raisonne: cf. Feldman/Schellmann II.74-83. Extremely rare, much more so than the editioned silkscreens. No auction records located. The poster was withdrawn by the publisher immediately after printing because of the controversial image (the "Electric Chair" series was published in 1971). Warhol kept several of the posters, which were sold by the Andy Warhol Foundation after his death. Our impression carries on the verso both the Estate of Andy Warhol stamp and the Andy Warhol Authentication Board [AWAB] stamp, along with the Andy Warhol Foundation's unique inventory number in pencil. The AWAB has been disbanded and no longer authenticates Warhol's work. The poster was created for the Art Auction and Sale for the Fund for the Conspiracy Defense, December 11, 1969, at the LoGiudice Gallery, Chicago. Undoubtedly to be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonne of Warhol's non-commissioned posters by Paul Marechal. Design by Sherman Mutchnick. Printed by Contemporary Art Lithographers, Minneapolis. Image copyright © Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts / Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York. Overall size: 34 1/2 x 22 1/4 in. (876 x 565 mm). [28405] |2400| {R100} (TL5) czzz~szzz
