Description
Includes a late 18th early 19th century Chinese Export teapot on stand - dragon head finial to teapot and extra grade craftsmanship to dragon handle formed from the dragon body and tail; body of vessel decorated with genre scene with figures; base of teapot with dragon form legs; maker's mark of Cumshing, Canton; circa 1780's-1820's. Accompanied by a similar creamer and sugar - dragon finials, and handles; body of vessels decorated with bamboo and genre scenes; gold washed interiors; both with inscribed escutcheons - sugar monogrammed SPT, other with Latin inscription, "Crescit sub pondere virtus" which translates to Virtue increases under ever oppression; with unidentified marks. Teapot on stand weighs approx. 34.26 troy oz; two pieces of hollow ware weigh approx. 26 troy oz. From a Darien, CT estate. Dimensions: teapot - 8.5" w x 7" h, excluding handle; stand - 5.5" w x 5.25" d x 4" h. Condition: Sugar vessel with dint to body of one dragon; one fang to other dragon missing. One dragon horn? missing to head of dragon form handle on creamer. Both creamer and sugar with inscription/monogram to cartouche on body of vessels. Teapot on stand appears to be in very good condition with light surface scratches, and one replaced pin on stand; polish residue throughout.
