Late 19th century, apparently unsigned, impressed mark to gilt bronze element ''CO / L89'', with paper label verso ''68 / Passage Choisseut / Alexandre Jeanne / Eleve du Giroux / Paris'' and indistinctly inscribed label verso, a hand-painted portrait of Caesar Augustus, within an oval-shaped glazed gilt bronze-molded ebonized wood frame adorned with pierced scrolling foliate gilt-bronze mounts, overall: 11.75'' H x 12'' W x 0.75'' D, est: $1000/1500
Provenance: Private Collection, Laguna Beach, CA

Condition

Overall good condition. Minor rubbed wear and scattered fleabites to raised edge of ebonized frame commensurate with age. Evidence of woodworm. Painting not examined outside of the frame.
