Description
Rome, 1st to 2nd century CE. This is the flat circular cast of a Roman bronze mirror with an incised edge and incised with concentric circles. This would have originally had a mirrored surface, possibly of silver or of mercury. This mirror fits perfectly into the palm of the hand. Size: 5" in diameter (12.7 cm).
Compare with nearly-identical examples in Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Bronzes in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, by M Comstock & C Vermeule, MFA 1971, nos. 398-400.
