Item Details
Description
Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1925 CE. This is a pair of spurs with beautiful tooled artwork on the arms, neck, and straps. The rowels are eight-sided and the body has geometric designs on their exteriors. The straps are worn at the buckles, suggesting that these spurs were well-used. Mexican vaqueros (and occasional vaqueras) are the quintessential cowboy, and their techniques for managing cattle across the wide open landscapes of Mexico and what is today the American west were the inspiration for the iconic figure of America's Wild West. Spurs like these are a connection to the factual roots of that mythical past. Size: 16-1/2"L with the strap stretched out x 4" diameter at rowel (41.9 cm x 10.2 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Historia Antiques, James Caswell, Santa Monica, CA
